Adrenal Fatigue - Do you feel like you are old before your time?

So you may have read about my Gluten Free issues but that is only a piece of my large iceberg of issues.
Last year my naturopath Chiropractor sent me to a wonderful Female M.D. specialist because of my hormone issues and thyroid issues.
By then I was 38, working a solid 50 hours or more a week but that is normal for me and usually tolerated it well.  Also my job is really very stressful, but I had tolerated well.  But a year before that things started piling on my back.  I could not let anything slide off of me.  I picked up every bodies bad attitudes and took them on as my own.  I cried all the time, if I wasn't mad as hell.  Very long story short, I was progesterone deficient.  So I started a prescription progesterone therapy and did great for a while, until they took me off of it cold turkey because they said I was receiving WAY TOO Much progesterone.

I literally crashed into a Brick Wall.  I drove to my Chiropractors office because after being off of the Progesterone for 2 weeks I was ready to end my life.  I simply couldn't take it anymore.  I knew that I had to get help and I knew she would tell me what to do.  I walked in without an appointment and begged to just speak to her, which they let me do.  As soon as she got in the room I told her I was worried that I was going crazy, I was so depressed I couldn't think straight.  I'd been reading scripture with no help.  I'd been singing my favorite spiritual songs with no help.  My mind was taking over.  Thank God for her.  First she hugged me and let me cry.  Then she started working on me.  She gave me some Progesterone Cream to use because I obviously still needed it.  She got me some blood tests and got me an appointment with this other amazing Dr.  (Oh, by the way, I did call the prescribing Dr. and begged to speak to him which I was not allowed to do.  I called back and told the nurse that I was worried I was going to hurt myself, she told me to call my family Dr. and get my anti depressants checked. - I had already called my family Dr. and they wanted me to talk to the OB/GYN and get more progesterone.)

So my new Female Specialist Dr reviews all of my blood tests that were ordered by my wonderful Chiropractor, she spent 2 hours with me on my first visit and sent me home with the book by Dr. James L. Wilson - Adrenal Fatigue - The 21st Century Stress Syndrome. 

This book was absolutely amazing for me.  My Dr. actually had me read certain sections first and then come back and pick up the rest of the book.  First she had me take the test and call her with the results, so she could start me on an Adrenal Recovery Program.  It should be no surprise that I was testing at a Severe Adrenal Fatigue level.  I literally felt at least 20 years older than I truly was.  Dr. Wilson's program has worked amazingly well for me. I am still on the road to recovery and have a ways to go but I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it not a Train.  I have added a link to their website as well.  Please check them out. 

I am receiving no reimbursement for my opinions stated here.  But I was so sick that I wanted to end my life.  I don't want anyone to go thru this if they don't have to.  That is why I am sharing this information.  I pray that you find it helpful.  Good Luck in all of your endeavours and never accept the first diagnosis if you believe it is wrong.  Listen to your Body.  It will tell you what you need.

Valentine Burlap Wreath

 I had been shopping for quite a few weeks looking for a Valentine wreath but couldn't find anything that tickled my fancy or could make me fork over $50 for a wreath I could make myself..  This wreath cost me about $6 to make.  Thanks to pinterest and Laurie at Gallamorewest  I thought I would give this wreath a try.

Materials include:
- 1 wire hanger (bent into the shape of a heart and untwisted)
- 1 yard of Burlap (cut into 3-4 inch strips)
- decorative ribbon

First I took my burlap and very sloppily cut it into 3-4 inch strips.  You can tell my cuts were pretty sloppy but with this wreath you can't tell at all.  The edges will fray, but that helps give it a rustic appearance.

Start threading your burlap strips onto your hanger.  Just poke it thru the burlap, fold it over and poke it through again.  Keep making your accordion type folds and poking thru the burlap with fold.  This just threads the burlap right onto the wire hanger. 


Keep threading on your burlap strips until your wire is as full as you would like it.  Mine took almost my whole yard of fabric.


Once you have your wire nice full of burlap twist the ends of the wire hanger back together.  Bend your wire into a better heart shape if needed.  Mine was really easy to bend and I did all the bending with my bare hands.


Add a bow for embellishment and I added a ribbon hanger for mine also.  Do whatever you need to in order to hang your latest creation.


And hang your beautiful new wreath.  I gave my wreath a little "haircut" before hanging it.  Some of the burlap pieces that frayed got a bit long but i am really happy with how it turns out.  I wish I would've found some colored burlap but the red bow helps you realize it's for Valentines day.  I even tried dyeing the burlap but it came out more of a Burgundy than red, and after that  I was just too lazy.

Gluten Free Breakfast

I just had to share my recent Grocery Store find with all of you.  Here in the Midwest, finding yummy Gluten Free products can be, well, a bit of a challenge.  Thanks to Grocery stores with a healthful mindset, this task is becoming easier.
Drum roll please........

SO Delicious Dairy Free Cultured Coconut Milk.

It's Gluten Free, Soy Free, Dairy Free and it tastes oh so yummy!  Plus its organic.  I feel like I have hit the jackpot.  This little 6 oz container has a whopping 8 grams of fiber also, and at 130 calories a container I don't feel guilty either. 

I have tried for a long time to eat the Soy Yogurts, then found I should reduce my Soy intake.  So then I went to Goats milk yogurt, and it was ok but you still had the feta aftertaste. :( 

So Delicious has produced a great product and I just had to share it with you.  Also a big THANK YOU to the local Hy-Vee grocery store for adding these products.  Your store has made my life easier.

"The Noticer" by Andy Andrews

My new all time favorite book.  Every teenager should have to take a course with this book before they can graduate.  I also bought the Audio book because my husband doesn't sit still long enough to read and he's listened to it twice.  Wonderful, common sense way to look at what life hands you day to day.  I can't say enough good things.  Oh, and if you ever get a chance to see Andy speak in person - Go!  He is wonderful!

The Gluten Connection

I've been thinking a lot about what I should about and share with you on my Gluten Free Journey.  So let's just start at the beginning.
My journey to diagnosis took about 5 years.  I had 2 colonoscopies (without any GF or Celiac testing), these tests were done before I ever knew to ask for the Celiac test.  Both of these tests came back negative.  "You have a very pink and healthy looking colon and tract" they would tell me. Heck they even showed me pictures, (yeah it was weird looking at your insides) it did appear to be pink and healthy.  IF I am so "healthy" why all the terrible diarrhea, gas and bloating.  Dr said it must be irritable colon or could be irritable bowel.  Well as the weeks turned into months and the months turned into years I was overwhelmingly irritable.
Many Great Thanks go out to my Naturopath Chiropractor Dr. Diana Franklin in Illinois.  She gave me a fantastic book to read "The Gluten Connection" by Shari Lieberman.  If you even think you might be Gluten Intolerant you need to read this book.  I am not a scientist and I was able to understand this book.  Even if you aren't the one with the diagnosis this will help you understand how Gluten affects the ones you love.
Her  first test for me was to simply avoid eating any gluten for a month.  If you don't know it already Gluten is in EVERYTHING that is processed.  What a shocker it is to learn that.  Was avoiding Gluten for a whole month easy - NOPE - it was hard.  I love pizza, pasta and bread, oh how I love bread.  I make some of the counties most loved homemade cinnamon rolls and now I cannot eat them.  That is another story.  I did however feel better avoiding all things Gluten.  In fact every month I stayed Gluten Free I felt better.  I never would've dreamed this wheat by-product could be such a demon.  I still to this day have to tell myself what kind of foods I CAN have, I cannot allow myself to focus on what I can't.  I can have all the meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and fruit I would like to eat.  Just don't cover them in breading and deep fry them.  Heck that isn't good for you anyway.  So grab a copy of this book and devour it (with your eyes :) ) and don't feel you have to read the chapters in order.  Read what you want to know, you can always come back and pick up the rest later, it may not all interest you and some of it does get a little technical.
You can do it - you are not alone.  NO more pitty parties - God is giving you a choice for a Healthy YOU!

Inspiration - Don't ask God why? he put you in this situation, ask yourself why not be in this situation?  You can do anything thru God.

Gluten Free snack - NEW

Wild Garden Hummus Dip! In individual containers!  Only about 63 calories per generous packet.  What a wonderful idea.  Plus it doesn't require any refrigeration, unless you don't eat a whole packet, but who could leave a partial packet of Hummus.  It is so delicious too.  Am I excited?  Heck yes I am excited.  True Gluten Free snack are hard to come by, especially ones that are good for you.  Plus I am a bit of a salty snacker, I can do without the sweets as long as I have something salty to nibble on, so this little bundle of joy is right up my alley.
Even if you aren't gluten free, this is a great snack that anyone who enjoys hummus will Love.

The Buck Stops with Me - Decision #1

Welcome 2012! 
I know that Spring can enter like a Lion but I sure never thought a new year could enter as a Lion.  The wind gusts for the past few days have been out of the norm for Illinois.  I seriously dislike wind, not breezes mind you, but wind that blows your hair every which way and makes your car wiggle all over the road.  Wind can ruin a perfectly wonderful day.  Oh well, there isn't much I can do about the weather but all those nasty days of gusty wind sure makes me appreciate the beautiful sunshiney, calm weather we have today.   My husband is such the optimist.  His take on the wind is "hey all that wind will dry the ground out in a hurry, no more mud."  It sure is a good thing he balances me out like that, otherwise I could become a serious Eeyore.
I have been off of work for almost two weeks and it has been a refreshing break.  Now I am trying to get back in the groove and FOCUS.  To do this I listened to my Andy Andrews The 7 Decisions to Success CD on the way to work.  If you have not read Andy's book "The Time Traveler" drop everything and order it now.  Anyone can read this book, men, women, and young adults.  The 7 decisions laid out in this book are not complicated.  In fact they are so simple you practically smack yourself upside the head saying to yourself "Why didn't I think of that?" 
The First Decision Andy shares with us:  The Buck Stops Here - Adversity is Preparation for Greatness.
Think about that for second, chew on it, really digest this piece of information.  Andy is telling us to take the Bull by the horns.  Meet your conflicts head on and deal with them.  Stop putting them off for tomorrow, for tomorrow they will only become larger.  Many times your own imagination gets in the way and you "think" something will be worse than it is.  Face it!  Man Up!  You will become known as the "one who responds", the "one who takes action", the "one who isn't afraid of a challenge.  (ok, you might be afraid, but the more you face your obstacles or fears the smaller they become, trust me, it's working for me and i deal with grouchy people every single day).
So for today:  The Buck Stops Here - with me.  If I did it I will take responsibility, If I didn't do it I will help the person who did,  If someone needs to do it I will learn how.  Don't let your imagination get the best of you.
