Snack Attack ~ Dried Apples

I love this time of year and all of the fresh apples that are harvested from my mother's apple tree.  Mom's apple tree is quite prolific and some of the branches have even had to be propped up so the they do not break.

My mom is an extraordinary food preserver.  She can's, freezes, and dries everything she can. I am trying to learn her craft since it is so essential for me to eat as organic as possible and what's more organic than growing your own fruit and produce knowing exactly what has, or more importantly hasn't been added to the fruits.

Because I travel so much mom dries a lot of apples for me to take in my suitcase.  I can get peanut butter at a lot of hotels (try eating gluten free at a continental breakfast - not easy) so with peanut butter, my dried apples and some chia seeds I can make a pretty satisfying snack.  Try this out sometime.  I think it would be a great way to get the kids starting to eat chia seeds as well.

Enjoy!
